Anyone ever noticed where fireants like to make their mounds? It didn't occur to me til my daughter- in- law pointed out that there are none in her St. Augustine grass (there are usually no more than two at a time in mine) and a friend of hers has none in her St. Augustine, only in the rest of her yard. I've recently treated over two dozen mounds in our Bermuda grass.

On about one acre of my six, I have St. Augustine. The fire ants are minimal in the St Augustine but I just recently killed a medium sized mound right in the middle of some very healthy grass. The ants do seem to prefer loose grasses. I take care of the St. Augustine organically & nature handles the rest, so this is not a fair comparison.

Thanks. We've been organic for about five years and all of our yard areas have been treated pretty much the same under normal circumstances. Guess I need to look into finding a dense growing sun loving grass.
