When is the best time to move a hydrangea plant? What light and soil conditions does this plant require? I have a very small plant that has been in a very shady bed for two years. It did not flower this year and there was only about 6 inches of new growth. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :D

Right now would be okay but may be best to wait until later into the cold weather before the ground gets hard for transplanting. Hydrangeas like dappled light for the most part and soil that is rich in organic matter. If you have our infamous black gumbo you need to add in compost, maybe some cornmeal and other usual amendments. But be careful not to make a "pot in the ground" which will only hinder the plant in the long term. And be sure to mulch well to keep the roots moist and warm over the winter so they grow. Hope this is helpful!
