I have two newly planted Red Maples (2 months in the ground) that are about 18' tall (container grown from Louisiana) I have been watering them, but haven't added anything to the soil aside from Superthrive when they were planted. A neighbor told me they need lots of iron in our soil here in Plano. Any truth to that? I plan to foliar spray with Garrett Juice in the spring. Any other treatments to insure a healthy tree?

Sounds like a good start- if you're doing the total organic yard treatment, (organic fertilizer now and again in the spring) that'll help loads.

I'd add green sand (about 3-6 bucks for 40 lbs) at any point you can at a rate of say 20 lbs per 1000 square feet and that'll help get iron in the soil. My favorite (though somewhat more expensive) additive for the soil is Volcanite, about 10 bucks for 40 lbs. It has lava sand and green sand along with humate and some other great trace mineral stuff for the soil as well as high energy to charge up natural processes.
