I recently installed a garden pond and I periodically add a bacteria and enzyme powder,which is sold by the garden pond equipment manufacturer, to help balance the system and control algae growth. I also treated my septic tank with a bacteria and enzyme treatment . Both treatments packaging says basically the same thing as far as containing beneficial bacteria and enzymes. I wondered if I could use the Septic System bacteria in my garden pond. I called the manufacturer of the septic treatment and asked if their product is harmful to fish and they said they do not recommend using their product in garden ponds. They said it is a different type of bacteria. Of course the pond bacteria cost at least 4 times more than the septic bacteria. Sounds fishy to me! I just wondered if anyone has reserched this topic.
