Normally my clogged (slow) tub/shower drain is from hair. A bent wire coat hanger will catch some awful looking messes. Follow that with a kettle full of boiling hot water and the tub/shower drains free and easy again. They do have a couple of new "as seen on TV" products which I just picked up at T@rget that will replace the coat hanger. Though I've yet to use them, they look to be certainly more flexible.
I have tried treating a washing machine drain, that has to be manually cleared with some regularity, with orange oil (what used to be Orange TKO/Texas TKO). It proved to be not only ineffective, but pricey as well.
There is also the baking soda/vinegar "volcano" method. Never used it, but some claim it delivers.
