For many years I was the Senior Field Herpetologist for Snake Removal, Inc. Folks with a snake problem, we were the number to call. When it fell on hard economic times, I acquired the 800 number and put the service under the umbrella of my own little company, Snake Encounters. After all, if anyone needs snake removal, it's because of snake encounters. We're a network of guys with lots of years under our belts and an encyclopedic knowledge of the snakes in our areas (and a few other related subjects) and if someone's in range they can have an expert handle the problem directly. Frequently though, all it really takes is a one-on-one, circumstantially and locationally specific consultation. Snake problems (imagine if you will, a nursing home, school or church with one) can be very dramatic, and frequently business entities call me because their lawyers told them to, but it's an easier problem to fix than so many others. Easier than roaches, termites, rodents (though a snake problem will often be related to that one) and no chemicals are necessary (nor do any work - there's still no "snake repellent" that works - yet.) Of course, snakes are actually beneficial facets of the ecosystem, but in some cases the level of unrest they inadvertently foster leads to a call to action. The number is 800-339-9470. And remember - get a picture. A quick ID is a service I'd charge for if you called that number, but as a member of Howard's site - it's included for you. Go organic - and Brake for Snakes.

Have you received any photos yet, any activity via this site? I hear you on the radio occasionally. Maybe you could post photos of some of your "clients" out in the field (the snake variety, of course!)

I came across a Flickr page with lots of good snake photos, from someone in Plano - that wouldn't be you, would it?

No, I'm not in Plano, but I do lots of work there. A very few have taken advantage of my offer for free ID's, but posting pics from inspections is iffy, as clients generally prefer anonymity. I will post pics of snakes I catch this season, but of course since it's not an emergency, rapid-response service in most cases, there often is no snake there to leave with when I arrive. The consultation about strategies for avoiding or preventing the problem in the future is valid either way though.

I don't care what your human customers look like! Like I said, if you have an opportunity after you remove the snakes, it would be great if you could get photos.

People would benefit from photo information and tips for identifying the snakes in their area.

I love the phrase "Brake for Snakes"! Although, I am not a snake enthusiast, I believe that snakes are better left to live and do what snakes do in their role in the ecosystem. Years ago, I was driving on some backroads in an unpopulated area near an international airport when I spotted a very large rattle snake crawling across the road. I drove around it, then turned around to get a look at it from the safety of my car. To my disgust, a man in a pickup truck had seen the snake, run over it, and then put the truck in reverse to run over the snake again. I was upset for two days because I just could not understand that man's actions. So...remember-"Brake for Snakes". And I do take pictures of any snake that I can!
