I would like to start a square foot garden.
I do not like the soil mixture mentioned in every site I looked at.
My garden will be at soil level
Any suggestions?

This will be short via phone, and no links, but you need to look at the home page and select the "Guides" page and look for the bed preparation section. That will give you the basics for getting the ground under your square foot sections ready to garden.

Most square foot garden recommend peat. You don't want to use peat in Texas. It dries too easily and is very difficult to rehydrate. In addition to the basic organic bed prep on this site, I recommend Coir, which is a coco fiber product that retain a lot of moisture.
