Opposition to spraying pesticides over populated areas to kill adult mosquitoes (adulticiding) rests on two very simple facts: 1) it does not work, and 2) it is dangerous to some people in the short term and adds to the overall pesticide load in the environment for the long term. The second point is moot given that adulticiding is ineffective, but it is important because spraying continues as West Nile virus recedes into a state known as chronic endemicity, one in which very few people are infected.

Denton City or County has been spraying in the town of Denton. They should go door-to-door and pass out those BTi cookies instead and have everyone go dump or drop them into standing water.

I suggested the same thing to The City of Lewisville in an email. I told them to post on their website what Bti was so people could understand that it is an organic solution to killing the larvae of the Mosquito and that it can be purchased as MosquitoDunks at Lowes for $9.97 for 6 Dunks or Calloways also carries them. And they should also post on their website the website of the company that makes MosquitoDunks which is http://www.summitchemical.com and that this is a company in Baltimore Maryland so this is an American Made product!!!

They send me back the following reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. The City Staff and Administrators have taken in consideration the additional information you've provided. However, at this time, for the sake of public health and safety, we feel it is necessary to spray the ares were the disease caring mosquitoes have affected human life with the West Nile Virus. Please refer to CityofLewisville.com to check location maps of the areas that will be sprayed on Saturday, July 21. This will help determine whether or not your area is in the spray zone. You will also find a list of precautions available to assist, should you determine your area will be sprayed.

Thank you again, and please free to contact me at the number below with additional questions.

The product that Lewisville is spraying is called: Aqualuer 20-20

This is a permethrin product of 20.6%, Piperonyl Butoxide Technical of 20.6% with 58.8% being INERT INGREDIENTS.

Talk about your Neurotoxin!!! Symptoms include: Tremors, incoordination, elevated body temperature, increased aggressive behavior and disruption of learning. It is acutely toxic to children. The EPA has classified permethrin as a carcinogen because it causes Lung Tumors in female mice and liver tumors in mice of both sexes. It inhibits the activity of the immune system, and also binds to the receptors for a male *** hormone. It is Toxic to honey bees and other beneficial insects, fish, aquatic insects, crayfish, and shrimp as well as cool blooded creatures like toads, lizards.

A wide variety of insects have developed resistance to permethrin. High level of resistance have been documented in cockroaches, head lice and tobacco budworm.

I could go on and on and on about how bad this spraying is for people and the environment. But no on seems to listen. I just hope it won't be too late before "They" finally understand how detrimental this spraying is to people and the environment.
