Hi everyone,

We are looking to put in a pond with a rubber liner and would like some shade from some smaller trees ie no bigger than about 15-20 feet tall and 20 feet or more wide but most importantly, ones with a root system that doesn't travel beyond 6-10 feet laterally so the pond liner isn't in jeopardy.

Any ideas would be appreciated. These will be in direct sunlight and I mean direct so they have to be able to handle the sun and be fast growing.

My favorite native tree that fits that criteria is a desert Willow. I have 2 and they both grew 10ft in their first season in the ground. They bloom from May to October and you'll have hummingbirds galore!
