Can someone help me id a type of grass invading my lawn? I have 1 acre of mostly St Augustine and Tiff, the new grass has blades similar to St Aug, but darker in color and not as rigid, it also doesn't spread from runners. I have been organic for 5 years. Thanks for your help.

Gary

Gary Bell,

Sorry, but based on your description I am unable to provide a clue. Adding some location information and perhaps a picture might prove helpful.

If it grows like a clumping grass I would bet crabgrass. Can you post a picture of it?

I'm thinking dallis grass. It pulls out real easy - at least it does in my soil.

If it has seedheads that looks similar to bermuda, it sounds like crabgrass.

If you go to google, then click on images and search for images of dallisgrass and crapgrass, you'll be able to find closeups of these.

Thanks everyone,

I can rule out dallis Grass, I have that also. I have not heard Howard's answer to Crab Grass, this sounds like what I have. What can I do organically to control Crab Grass?
Thanks again for your help.

Gary
