Post subject:  tree root area

I am considering placing a large mat-like circle under my trees to make weed eating easier and to inhibit weed growth. Do these allow enough air flow for the root system of a tree or does the mat function the same as too much soil/mulch on top of that area?

Thanks,
mj stevenson

What type of material will the circle be? It's not a good idea to place anything but mulch under your trees. A good mulch will keep the weeds down.

:?: Will my Live Oak trees be damaged if I spray a mixture of 9% vinegar, orange oil and liquid molasses onto the "suckers" that sprout from the roots of those trees?

No, that won't hurt your trees. You can use the mixture as a grass/etc. killer around your trees if you desire. The bad news is that this will have little effect on your suckers. The vinegar doesn't work well on woody plants. Make sure your tree is healthy (root flare, etc.) & keep cutting the shoots with your mower.
