Post subject:  Compost Tea for soil prep.

I recently brewed about 40 gallons of compost tea. I used about half of it on my front lawn and then broadcast the rest in the back yard I also use it to control fire ants(it works great!). My back yard is full of dandelions that are periodically clipped to add to my compost bin. I am planning to soon have grass in the back yard(still undecided whether to sod or seed). My question is this: Is the compost tea doing the soil(really just dirt) any good and what else should I be doing to prep the soil?

The compost tea is providing microbes to the soil just the same as compost would provide microbes. There are two other things you could do to prep the soil. One is to apply corn meal to feed the microbes you just put in there. The second is to mulch the soil to shade it from the sun. Shaded soil is 20 degrees cooler than soil in full sun, so more microbes grow in it. By the time the seed or sod comes, your soil should be in great shape.

Get a Weed Hound at Target ($20) to pluck your dandelions. The reports from users are universally fantastic.
