My son has a saltwater pool and it has been overflowing and spilling salt water onto his lawn and killing the grass.

He put a pipe in the lawn to move the salty water into a ditch away from his is lawn. Now he is wondering how to leach the old salt out of his lawn so it can recover. Anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?

Salt problems are fairly easy to solve with the organic program. Most of the organic products that we use have strong buffering powers that reduce the impact of salts. Especially effective are compost, humates, organic fertilizers, dry molasses and Garrett Juice. Rock minerals such as zeolite and gypsum will also help. Using these materials with solve the problem but the salt water will have to stop being backwashed into the same spot. Getting a soil test and specific recommendations from Texas Plant and Soil Lab will give you the ability to fine tune the applications to be the most efficient.

In the north people simply turn the sprinkler on to leach the salt out. The problem shows up in the spring where they have a heavy snow/ice and salt the streets. If you do decide to get your soil tested, TPSL is the place to go. They are miracle workers with salt imbalance. That is where your first money should go. Then decide where to spend the rest of your budget after the results come in.
