Post subject:  What kind of grass is this

The attached picture is of the grass that is currenlty growing in my lawn. I am looking to reseed and would like to reseed with what I currently have.We just bought the house so I am not sure what kind of grass it is. I talked to the guy that put the seed down but he said what he used was a mixture of all different types of fescue and couldn't identify this particular one. I like it because it seems to do very well in the heat and drought. It looks like rye but based on what I was told it is a type of fescue. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Where are you located? It looks like the St. Augustine that we have in North Texas.

Located in Charlotte, NC. I have searched and searched and I can't find any Fescue grass that looks like this, but the guy who put the seed out swears he put out a 100% mixed variety of Fescue. I will search St. Augistine and see what I find.

I've edited this a couple of times so I hope you didn't come in the middle and meet with confusion.

Here is a Google image search on Fescue.

Here is a Google image search on Centipede.

St. Augustine is started with sod. I don't know a lot about sod grasses myself, but here are the particulars from the Dirt Doctor
St. Augustine page:

Someone will come along who knows more about grasses and your location, but you might be able to help yourself if you poke around some of these links.

Good luck!

The photo below is of St. Augustine.

Looks like crabgrass to me but it could be centipede. It is not St Aug. St Aug has a boat tail shape at the tips before you mow it. Yours is pointy.

He's in North Carolina. Does that make a difference to your answer?

With that in mind, it is probably crabgrass. I believe the soil in NC is too rich to support centipede growing anywhere near that dense.
