| Post subject: | Planting St. Augustine in place of Bermuda |
I recently (within the last year) moved in to a house in Plano. For some reason the previous owner planted the front 1/3 of the yard is solid Bermuda and the rest is St. Augustine. It is not a mix of the two at all, although the St. Augustine runners are gradually moving in to the Bermuda. I want to replant/sod the Bermuda area so that I have all St. Augustine grass, as the rest of the St. Augustine is doing great. I had planned on cutting out the Bermuda grass and totally resodding it with St. Augustine. But here is my question, is there any harm in just laying the new St. Augustine sod right over the Bermuda? It may sound silly, but am very curious. Any other ideas or comments would be appreciated. Gregg |

Yes, you do not want to bury any living tissue. A anaerobic muck layer will be formed and the new grass will suffer. |

St Augustine will reclaim at least 10 feet of the bermuda each season. All you have to do is keep it watered and mowed at the highest setting on the mower. |
