Post subject:  Aerobic Septic Spray Field

Had to install an aerobic septic system and I have a few questions on the spray field and how to improve soil condition. My two main concerns are the clorine used to treat the wastewater prior to spraying and the long term effects of water softner brine that goes into the septic tank on the lawn and trees. I do pump the tank annually and add bacterial activators thru the Sink/toilet twice a month. What should be done to both counteract the clorine and salt and improve the microbial activity on the spray field? Tea/Molassas/Soil Activator????

Tea and molasses won't hurt. I would not use the Medina brand soil activator without a soil test - preferably from The Texas Plant and Soil Lab. And I almost never suggest soil testing.

Thanks David, will try to get some good samples and send them off. I assume they will provide me with a recommended solution as what to add. Do you know how long it takes to get the results?

I don't know how long it takes.

I've seen their report and you should not be disappointed. I was a little overwhelmed with their suggestions. If you have any questions after you get it back, please write back.
