Dallas, TX Oak Cliff
Hello, I've just had a new Zoysia sod lawn installed in my back yard. It has been in for a few months. I have an abundance of these weeds. They all sprouted up between the seams of the sod pieces. They are rosette shaped and pretty easy to pull up with a single taproot. They are starting to flower. They get anywhere from an inch or so to about 10" diameter at most. When they flower they send up spindly stems, teeny white flowers and make bean-like pods. I've never seen them before. Could they have been brought in with the sod? I also had St. Augustine sod installed in the front yard, but none of these weeds appeared there.
I'm not too worried since they are easy to pull, and I think they will get crowded out or die off. But I have searched and searched and can't find anything. I thought they might be in the mustard family until I saw the pods. Anyone know?

That looks like young Queen Anne's lace, in the carrot family. It gets quite tall if allowed to grow, but will maintain a basal rosette if you mow and don't get rid of it. I pull it out by hand - it has a taproot that slides out easily. We've had rain recently enough that they should come out now. Every winter new weed seeds blow over the landscape - they may have come in on the sod or have blown in.

Thank you for your reply! I'm almost convinced, but the little green bean like seed pods on it make me think that's not it. It does make me want to transplant a few someplace else to see what they turn into.

I think I paid more attention to the top-down photo. I see the seed now on your other shot - looks like a legume, doesn't it? Do you have any photos of the flowers?
