with a container patio plant. Wish I could tell you the specific varitey, but lost the plant stick, or never had it. Plant is in a light colored clay with a healthy soil mix which included compost, lava sand, and greensand with plenty of pot shards at the bottom for drainage. It resides on a covered patio that is oriented to receive a full day of western exposure. It overwintered in the garage just fine. Looked good Spring and the first part of June. Now the stalks are turning grey (or gray  ) and dying. I have tried keeping the soil dry as I have read it prefers that, and I have tried watering it every other day. I have never had great luck, well no luck at all really growing lavender before but this particular plant has done the best thus far.

Put it where it can get morning sun and afternoon shade. I would stick my finger into the soil to check for moisture before you water. It's possible that with all the rain lately, it got too wet. Spanish Lavender does really well here too.

Thank you sandih! Though, as I mentioned, I don't know the variety, what memory I have of the purchase it is of French origin. I have been tending towards dry vs. wet (or even damp). I'll relocate to the other side of the house and increase my watering and see how things go. I would really like to have this one make it.

Don't water unless the soil feels dry when you put your finger in it. Mix up some compost into the soil to help retain that moisture.

The soil has definitely been dry before watering. I have tried "drought dry", dry, and then daily/every other day watering. I feel I've covered the whole range of watering practice.
