Post subject:  Overgrown foundation plantings

We have foundation plantings of yaupon hollies(not dwarf), wax leaf lagustrums, loropetalum and burford hollies that have become too large for their bed locations. Although they have been pruned and shaped they are just too large. Some have been in the landscape going on 40 years. I have resisted sever pruning for two reasons bird habitats and the eye sore it would initially cause. Suggestions for treating each species? The yaupons are trimmed as large ball bushes, actually have gotten more egg shaped, but which ever shape are way too large. They go to or above gutters of the house. All the shrubs are too large. Have thought about the possibility of replacing some as they have thinned out from lack of sun or they are just not attractive any more. I know others have faced this situation. We live in the country near Brownwood. The soil is more alkaline, but the beds have been improved. Only organics have been used for at least 20 years. Help will be appreciated.

Why not remove every other plant and see how it looks? Or depending on their shape and size, every third plant, etc.

Removing some of the Buford Holley or some of the wax leafs is certainly something to consider. All of the shrubs have grown too large however, what about pruning? Will severe pruning hurt the yuapons? Loropetulam? Wax leafs? Bufords?
Let me know your thoughts on pruning or the type pruning necessary to improve my situation.
