Can anyone tell me how to prune these 2 roses? They were here when we moved here so I don't know what kind they and I'm not so familiar with roses or rose pruning.

Is there a guide for beginners?
Feels like I'm butchering them.

There doesn't seem to be any entry in the organic library for pruning roses (most of the recent rose attention has gone to the disease "rose rosette"); I am certain you will find tons if you Google "pruning roses," and some of it may be correct. This would be a good question to call in and ask Howard next Sunday morning because he may add caveats to do with pruning in a way to prevent disease spread. A am the moderator of the "Ornamentals" section but I must confess that I don't have roses (the last one in my yard was by the back door and grabbed everyone who walked past it - so it was dispatched).
