Post subject:  Vine to cover a teepee

I want to cover a teepee made of rebar in a children's garden with a vine that will be in a part sun/shade place. I would like to have something with flowers if possible but it can't attract bees! I might need to stick with one of the ivies. It needs to be something that won't need much supplemental water after it gets established. Any suggestions?

Can't have flowers with out bees! It doesn't work that way. I assume you're looking for an evergreen vine?

Have not had problems w/bee stings even around children if they leave the bees alone, don't wave arms & hands around, etc. Easier said than done, I know.

Trumpet vine will grow like a weed-some think it is one. :) I love it but some don't like its invasiveness. Caroina jesmine is good. Coral homeysuckle. Good ol' morning glory.

To Sandhi, doesn't have to be evergreen, even the bare stems in the winter would be an interesting cover.

To Trichy Gramma ( love your username!) I haven't yet been able to get my kid over the instictive fear--but I keep working on it! I would rather have something that he can be completely comfortable in, so do I just need to plant one of the ivies?

Morning glory is a great suggestion. The blooms won't be open all the time so maybe the bees won't be there all the taime as well. Plus, you can plant multiple colors of flowers and it would be stunning.
