Post subject:  Loropetalum Problems

Put in Loropetalum (Aubrey, TX north of Dallas) 2 yrs ago----never did any good, transplanted late just this past winter to a more sunny location----now they have dropped all leaves and only the twigs seem alive (limber, green when broken off). FYI They are planted in Good Earth Technology's 'dirt' which we hauled in here 2 yrs ago to put around the house in our beds. Have tried to keep them moist after transplanting. When do I just give up and pull them out? gb

let them dry out just a bit before watering. They don't have to have constant wet feet.

I wonder what the chances are that they will 'make it' ??? I thought about giving them a couple more weeks before pulling them out....any evidence of leaf production, I will leave them in place.

I have had Loropetalum for several years and have had no problems. They are planted on the west side of my house. I don't water them a lot - basically leave them alone except to trim and shape them. You might try less water and more sun. Good luck - they are beautiful.

These were planted 2 yrs ago----never did well (were hidden behind the fast growing Knock-out Roses!). I transplanted roses and Loropetalum this late winter-----Loro's have hated me ever since (of course they looked pretty bad to begin with). They are on a southern exposure now and I will hope that they pop out of this dormant stage and survive. I absolutely LOVE them when I see them out in people's yards or in commercial landscape. I'm absolutely in Love with them. Cross your fingers for me ;) Thanks! Glenna
