I planted a Early Girl tomato plant early spring plant. It survived through the moderate summer into the fall and I've had a good bunch of green fruit on the vine for several weeks. Nothing is ripening. Is there any thing I can do to get ripened fruit off this vine?

My Super Fantastic are just now putting on some good size and are all vividly dark green. I planted them in late summer (and wondered if they would survive the deluge we had for weeks). Unless you expect frost soon, I'd advise be patient, they'll come along. That's what I'm doing in Fort Worth.

If you need to take them in because of weather (you didn't say where you are) I can tell you what my mother used to do in Seattle where she did a lot of gardening when I was a child. If the tomatoes weren't ripe and the frost was on the way, she would pull up the entire plant and hang it from the rafters in a darkened room in the basement. They gradually ripened on their own even after the leaves withered and the plant was dead. Unless the fruit is really tiny and simply didn't have much chance to grow, most of them should ripen.
