Has anyone grown any type of potatoes in the Houston area, if so what kind and how well did they grow and what time did you plant them?

Thanks!

God Bless

You can plant Kennebec (white), Red Norland, Pontiac (Red), and Red Lasota. Yukon Gold also does well here and All Blue. Buy 'seed' potatoes at the appropriate time at a nursery, or get organic potatoes from the grocery store. They need to be organic to ensure they haven't been sprayed with something to prevent them from sprouting.

You can plant them July25-August 10 for a spring harvest or plant them Feb 1-March 1 for a fall harvest.

july/august for spring???? feb/march for fall???
first time i have ever seen these planting dates even for houston. figureed they would burn up or freeze respectively for those dates. i planted in feb and by late may /june the plants had turned brown, fallen over and i harvested.

It's not a planting date specifically for Houston, it's for the planting zone you're in..See Howard's Vegetable Gardening Book.
