If you live in N. Central Texas, October is the time to plant garlic. Don't be tempted to plant garlic from the grocery store because many are treated to prevent sprouting. Also, not all varieties of garlic grow well in our area, and our range of temps. Seek out the appropriate varieties from you local, organic nurseries in your town. Plant in October and harvest usually in May!

Good advice. I basically save some of last season's crop for replanting. The small golden bulblets that break off during garlic harvest will produce new plants as well. Some are simply left in the garden soil but some are saved indoors to be planted now. They will produce "rounds" the first sea on that can be used like regular garlic or left in the ground to become full bulbs the second season.
