Post subject:  Question about adequate space in which to grow yellow squash

Since the weather has been so lovely, I have been out a few times to weed the garden and think about things that worked and didn't work last year. One thing that I have always wanted to plant is yellow squash. I am giving up some tomato space (horrible blight issues last year) for the squash. It measures 5.5' deep and 4.5' wide. I am not sure how many plants I should put in that small of area since they spread so much. Howard's book does say that for some reason a garden with less plants seemed to have more pests.

Any guidance from the crew out there would be wonderful. Next on the list is to find a good place for the black-eyed peas.

OK, here's another question about yellow squash....

Has anyone grown it on a trellis? Does the fruit do better if it matures on the ground or can it hang from a wire that's not too far off the ground?

Someone out there is a squash expert, right?
