Interesting response. For different reasons, I started wondering if 'maybe these are helpful bugs'.
the 'web' covered areas seem to originate in the crotch of trunks, branches and limbs. this is a very old crepe myrtle (possibly 53); and the while the skin on the woody parts scales off, it 'looks' very old. The little guys are taking off a thin layer of skin and what they leave behind looks almost like new. Nature's own Exfoliation
