These are a couple of dwarf pittosporums planted about a month ago. I water every morning for an hour (drip). These two (out of 6) in the area are growing like this and Im not sure what to do about it. I have already checked underneath in the soil- plenty of moisture. Weird also is that the area these shrubs are planted (full sunlight from dawn to about 3pm) about 6 feet away from a 5yr old oak (the excess water from the shrubs drains down from the house, where the plants are, towards the street, passing by the oak). His leaves are starting to brown as well. All other plants (hollys, indian hawthorns) surrounding are doing fine (except for the flowers who continue to get eaten by birds).

It looks like a fungal disease to me. Personally, I don't believe tht they need to be watered daily, which may be part of the problem. The soil can dry a little between waterings. You may want to spray with Garrett Juice and a strained cornmeal mixture. |

An established tree does not need that much water. I hope others jump in with thoughts but I have a red oak that's been in the ground 2 years and it gets watered maybe once or twice a week at the most. |

2 more plants are now dying. But I noticed underneath on of them was a small mound of ants. Does anyone know if the ants there is a good or bad thing... and maybe killing the plants |

when you pull up the dying plants, how wet is the soil? I don't believe a small mound of ants can do that harm. I work in a greenhouse and nursery and we ants in pots all the time w/out problems. |

So the only other option now is to stop watering for a while. |
