My watermelons have one large brown spot starting on opposite end of melon from vine. Not sure if this is due to the excessive heat or bacterial? Please help~

I'm having the same problem. Did you ever get an answer? Thanks, Dave.

It looks like a sunburn, but that doesn't make a lot of sense in some gardens. I've had problems with rodents biting into fruit (cantaloupe, in my case) and it spoils quickly from that point. What kind of insects are you seeing in the garden, and are you seeing any holes around the garden? I've had rats in past years (I am adjacent to a creek and large wooded area) and this year, mice. The dogs catch they mice if they get into the back yard, but the garden is beside the house. I've noticed the neighbor's cat prowling the garden at night. Good kitty!

I was told it looks like over-watering. I give the beds a good soak every other day, so they might be correct. The only insects I've had are grasshoppers, and the local rodents are the rabbits my daughters like to chase around the yard. ;-)

This could be similar to blossom end rot which is caused by improper uptake of water. Mineral deficiencies can be related. Growers have reported success by adding soft rock phosphate, Epsom salts and/or Azomite.
