Post subject:  Degerminated Cornmeal??

I've heard so many good reports about the effectiveness of cornmeal as an antifungal for plants, I decided to try it myself. I bought a large sack of cornmeal, and it wasn't until I got it home that I noticed all of the labeling on the sack: "Quaker Yellow Corn Meal Enriched Degerminated." It's the word degerminated that bothers me. I don't know what it means (irradiated to preclude germination??) and I don't know whether this type of cornmeal will work for fungus control. Has anyone successfully (or unsuccessfuly) used degerminated cornmeal to control fungus? I'll certainly be grateful for information. Thanks, John

The "germ" is a particular part of a seed. If it is degerminated, that part of the seed has been milled away and used elsewhere in another product.

I don't know if it will work or not. Give it a whirl. If it doesn't work, have a tamale party!! At least it should work as a fertilizer for you.
