Rust? Are your lawnmower blades rusty?

Rust is the name of a fungal disease. Try corn meal at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet of turf. Also you can make corn meal tea by putting a heaping handful of corn meal in a gallon of water for 24 hours. I'm not sure how much that will cover effectively, but it probably covers a lot more than the handful of corn meal would have covered. I would guess it covers 100 times more and maybe as much as 1,000 times more.

Thank you for enlightening me. I do not recall ever hearing of such a thing. Thank you for providing a solution as well!

Nadine,
Corn meal works by attracting and promoting the Trichoderma (try-ko-DER-mah) fungus. Trichoderma is a family of fungi, but the one we're interested in causes a disease in other fungi leading to their death. It sort of like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Corn meal or corn tea seems to work against every garden fungus disease. Rose and hosta growers are very happy with the results against common diseases those plants get.

Hey thanks. I knew about the cornmeal, but not the rust. Cornmeal helps toenail fungus as well. It is much less expensive than the drugs prescribed for it and will not have the bad side effects, either.
