My squash and melon plants are being destroyed by something, not sure what. I've attached some pics, hopefully they will help. We've had an explosion of earwigs, so I'm thinking that may be it. Unfortunately, I work nights so can't stake out my garden until next week. I've also notice a few ants and two squash bugs, but not enough (I don't think) to do this much damage. This is the second time around, the last crop was also destroyed overnight. The first crop even had the roots eaten. After planting these, I spread DE and EcoSmart granules around the area, and sprayed with Garrett Juice and BioWash. Just got some EcoSmart spray, will try that today.

Have you seen a bunch of earwigs on the plant?? I would think snails, slugs or caterpillars. That kind of damage takes awhile to incur, did you spot anything? I would use Bt which is a spray that will kill whatever eats into the plant...unfortunately there's not much plant left!

I didn't see anything on the plants. This damage occurred in one night. Unfortunately, I work nights, so couldn't catch the culprit(s) in the act.

The way it's worn down in place and not just eaten all the way through makes me think snails or slugs. Try Sluggo, Spinosad or Bt.
