I removed a Bradford Pear from my yard about 4 years ago leaving a stump about 6' below the turf line. About 2 years ago a waxy looking fungus started growing up through my St. Augustine. It's still growing! How can I kill it?

That fungus is hard at work breaking down the remains of the tree roots in your yard. It should go away on its own as the wood breaks down. You might post a photo of the fungus to give us a better idea of how widespread it is.

Is it a woody fungus or soft bodies like mushrooms?

Looks like and has the texture of wax. It's in an area about 6' in diameter. There were some mushrooms growing there, but they've gone for now. I don't mind the fungus as long as it won't hurt the St. Augustine.

It shouldn't harm the grass, it is growing there because of the wood decomposing underground.
