Post subject:  Bug identification
My mom is having a really hard time with some bug eating her plants. She planted several vegetable plants and they have all been eaten on. Peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, etc. Some of these plants have been eaten completely to the ground. She found a bug on them and we took some pictures and was wondering if anyone can id it for us and if they can tell us if it is what is eating her plants. I have two pictures. One shows the bug in front of my finger to help show the size of it.

That is strange that the url don't work. I can type in the address and it will go just fine. ??? Of course it could have something to do with tripod. Who knows???

I cut and pasted the link and was then able to see the pictures. I looked in my "Texas Bug Book" but did not see anything that looked exactly like it. I did however get help from an expert. :) It is a treehopper nymph. For control of a heavy infestation, you can spray orange oil & water mixture on them. It is also helpful to apply beneficial nematodes.

It's a type of leafhopper. What a great picture! I've got them too, but they look a tad different and they really haven't done that much damage. I heard birds eat them and I guess you could use row covers. I wish I could be more help! :?
