Post subject:  bag worms on cedars

Last fall we had a bad infestation of bag worms on some cedars on our 20 ac property. We've put out Trichogrammas (tricky gramas :) ) in the past but guess these trees were too far away to benefit.

I'm going to TRY to post pictures. Although it is far more dramatic in person. We were going to cut the trees down b/c they were obviously dead but never got around to doing that. They came back-poor little things! We did put out more wasps and have no more new bags.

I guess my reason for posting is to say "Never give up!" :)

These insects are always a stress related problem. Try drenching Garrett Juice, spraying the grasses and weeds with vinegar and mulchinthe the root zone with compost. I see these bugs the most when there is too much or too little moisture in the soil.

We didn't lose the trees, they seem to be doing ok. No more new bag worms. They are in a sort of shallow area where the soil doesn't drain well. So they will either overcome that situation or not. :) I think the wasps have done their job this time!
We've applied the sick tree treatment w/other trees in the wooded areas w/great success too.
