Post subject:  White spots on trees

Hello, I noticed that my two trees in our yard have these white spots on the trunks and branches. The first tree is a Chinese Pistachio and the second is a Bradford Pear. I noticed the spots on the pistachio tree last year and sprayed the tree with a fungicide but nothing changed. So, someone suggested that it may just be the tree itself. Now I am noticing the spots on my Bradford Pear (they are not as clear in the picture) On the main two branches on the pear tree, however, it seems that they bloom in the spring but by the end of the summer, these two branches are literally dying off. Don't know if that has to do with these spots or not.

The spots are range in size from dime size to quarter or half dollar size. They do not rub off and they are flat against the surface of the trunk. Any ideas?

They look sort of like a normal discoloration of the trunk, but if they are not, I would probably be spraying the tree with both milk and with liquid seaweed. Spray every surface. I would spray milk one week and seaweed the next and alternate for a few months. The dilution rate for both is 2 ounces per gallon of water (I'm thinking you would us an adjustable hose end sprayer).

I have the same spots on my tree that popped up last year. I still have some white spots, but the old spots are now brown. Will the same treatment help my tree?
