What can you do with the scum at the bottom of your compost tea tank? Its has been building up over the past year as I add new plant material.

I'd wash it out and dump it in my compost - or leave it. I don't believe it is harming anything; in fact it may help fire up your compost tea quicker due to the microbes in the scum. Made me think of yeast used in bread.

According to Dr Ingham, the Godmother of compost tea, that scum needs to be cleaned out after every batch. The pros use chlorine or hydrogen peroxide to clean it out. Don't dump that in the compost. Dump it in the drain.

David, why does the scum need to be cleaned out after every batch, why would you use chlorine & why wouldn't you dump it in your compost? After using chlorine I wouldn't dump it in my compost either. I would rinse the bucket out with a hose and keep going. That advice from Dr. Ingham doesn't make a lot of sense.
