Hi y'all - 66 & Retired - Rockport, Texas (Zone 9A near Corpus Christi). Been following Howard's writings (along with M. Beck) for many years, and been doin' soil - studying dirt to the microsopic level, making serious compost & potting media for about 50 years.
Re-establishing our wholesale nursery. Used to manage a peat (bog) operation and nursery in Sebring, FL.
Harvesting about 1,500-2,000 pounds of finished compost a month, using the 'frame' method - mostly grass clippings and horse manure with some shredded oak leaves & pine needles. Collect about 250 gallons of compost 'tea' each month as nutritional drench.
Pretty much straight organics for gardening.
Building our home with ICF (concrete) with 50,000 gallon concrete rainwater cistern under the house, since our well isn't usable, even with an R/O unit. Using ozone for disinfection. Finishing up excavation of a 75,000 gallon rainwater pond for irrigation around our 2.5 acre place, waterfront on Port Bay (saltwater - fishin' is great).
Been raising 125+ trees & shrubs in pots to plant this winter with backhoe. Making tons (literally) of true loam (+ compost) for plantings with micorrhizal innoculation, since our land is pure hard, very salty clay, so all must be raised bed plantings.
Wife and I are certified Texas Master Gardeners and I'm a certified (ARCSA) rainwater harvest professional.
Look forward to gettin' to know some of you folks & cussin'/discusiin' various topics.
