Post subject:  Dying lawn help please!

I am in desperate need of a lawn consultant. Our lawn is 5 years old and we have tried an organic approach for the last 3 years. I haven't been very successful. Each year the weeds are getting worse and the bermuda turf is dying out. In many sections, when I go to pull up a weed, the grass around it has no root depth and the grass lifts up like carpet in a 1-2 foot area.

I need to find a lawn consultant in the Dallas area that can tell me what is going on. I need to fix it fast. The HOA in our area has even sent us a letter to get the weeds under control. I want to stay organic, and I realize that I will probably have to replace areas of the lawn but I need help fast.
Thanks for any help that the forum can provide!

Have you tried renting an aerator? After aerating, apply 1/2" - 1" of good quality compost. You will need to dump little piles of it and spread it with a rake out from there. The results will impress you.

What is your watering schedule? You should water deep. From what I understand, the roots will grow longer the deeper you water. Also, mowing height is important. The higher your grass is allowed to grow, the deeper the roots will grow. I like Bermuda grass about 2" -3" tall. Remember to increase mower height for slopes to avoid scalping.
