My place in Denton County of Texas was hit hard enough to have the roof and gutters totaled. It's going to be an expensive job because as it turns out I've got composite shingles on top of wood shingles. The quote I've gotten so far putting up the plywood is about as expensive as the replacement 30 year shingles. At least insurance should cover it. Anyway, while I'm having to do this I wanted to consider all the options. I've got some friends out in Krum that went with a metal roof and it sure looks good to me, however, it would really stand out on my street, and I'm not sure the neighbors would care much for it. Though, they have that bright shiny (at least right now) kind, which I imagine is good at reflecting the Sun's heat. Not sure if a colored metal roof might go over better. Also not sure how much of an "upgrade" (likely out of my pocket) this would cost. Any other options I should consider? What about the 50 year Class 4 hail resistant shingles? (I'm pretty sure I get an insurance break with those, but will be double-checking.) Any roofers in the DFW area that have any knowledge of "green" building? |

There are metal shingles that look like regular shingles. The ones I've seen were about 2'x4' & installed like regular ones. Offhand I don't know of a manufacturer or cost. |
