Here's a few questions regarding hummingbirds for the experts here:
Im in Frisco.
when should I have the feed out for them? wait till June or earlier?

what are the best plants for north texas for attracting these little guys?
(what do you have success with them feeding on)

I want to get the plants in the next week or so....gotta find a few plants b/c I dedicated an area of the yard for this.
thanks for your help

Hummingbirds are starting to arrive, so you can put out the feeders anytime.

I am not an expert gardener and things like soil type and shade are probably things to consider when selecting plants.

Some of the plants i see referenced in a hummingbird gardening book include:

hollyhock
snapdragon
golden and western columbine
red basil
canna lily
larkspur
foxglove
coral belles
impatiens
cardinal flower
four-o'clock
bee balm
Egyptian star
phlox
obedient plant
Texas, tropical and scarlet sage as well as other sages
Salvia
fire pink, Indian Pink
nasturtium

Your nursery can probably help with choices. Areas with a single color (all red, for example) seem to do a better job in attracting hummers than a mix of colors.

Good luck.
