Post subject:  The American Avocet

One of my favorite birds is the American Avocet. They are fairly common along the Texas coast and some actually summer in the Texas Panhandle, which seems like a strange location for a shorebird.

Like many species they are more colorful in their breeding plumage. Females have a shorter, more curved bill than the males.
