Shorebirds are among the earliest migrants, sometimes heading south as ealry as July. By this time of year many species of shorebirds will be passing through or moving into Texas for the winter. With the hot weather starting to break it is a good time to get out to the lakes and shore to check out the latest arrivals.

The challenging "fall warblers" should also be showing up to add to the mix.

One of the best ways to keep up with bird sightings from around the state is to join the texbirds listserve. It's free and you'll find lots of good info.

An example of what you might find on the list serv, some recent photos from the Texas coast and info on birds found in both Texas and Japan.
