Post subject:  Dog Run at My House

I received a question about where the dog's run is. It is the concrete around and inside the greenhouse. This greenhouse is a work in progress.

Here's another angle of the greenhouse/dog run and one of my uses of cinder block.

The concept of this greenhouse, which works pretty well, is that of a propagation and plant overwintering greenhouse. The roof is solid so it receives little direct sun in the summer, but the sun's angle is much lower in the winter and enters the full space of the house.

If I did this project properly, the existing concrete floor would be removed and replaced with cedar flakes - a technique I learned from Malcolm Beck. Although concrete and gravel are the two most common floors for greenhouses, they are by far the worst. They are great breeding places for all sorts of pathogens. Cedar smells good, provides carbon dioxide for the plants and naturally repells insect pests.
