Built a flower bed in my garden to attract bees - want to plant some bulbs, but sounds like too much maintenance - am told in zone 8 you plant in Late November/December then dig up in the spring and re-plant in fall! Is this correct - my wife wants tulips - any special instructions?

I don't know about tulips, but leaving iris and daffodils and gladiolas in the ground (to say nothing of the various and sundry lilies out there, grape hyacinth, and many more bulb-like flowers) all are fine left alone once they're planted. Every couple of years I thin the beds and move extras to a new place or give them away. My personal method is benign neglect - plant a few and see if they come up, and if left alone, will they come up again? If there is someone who knows more (or if you want to Google a local nursery and give them a call) I hope we'll see more answers.

Thanks for response. I did find some info - it seems in zone 8 I need to put bulbs in ice box till late November, or early December. I seems if I plant now they will come up in the middle of winter and freeze? I have Iris all over the place and they bloom every year - no problem! I will let you know what happens - will plant in December.

Yes- to the part about how and when to plant them - don't plant now or they'll sprout and won't have enough oomph to make it through the winter (a technical term, of course!). I can't ever find bulbs in the bed later in the year because the leaves are off or because they've spread and I miss some.

This also may be helpful. Here are some plants that attract bees:
