My wife and I just returned from a short vacation to a magical place – Sedona, Arizona. This time of year the crowds are thin and the weather is perfect. It was a bit of a drive from the Phoenix airport but the scenery made the trip worthwhile. As we drove north out of Phoenix there were Saguaro cactus lining the hillsides and valleys. As we drove north the cooler weather was not suitable to the Saguaro but we were still able to spot a few taking advantage of the warmer temperatures on south facing slopes.
As we entered the Sedona city limits, the Red Rocks seemed to grow out of the ground. It reminded me of driving from the airport in NYC towards Vermont during fall foliage season. Everywhere you looked in every direction stood a breath taking view. Visiting Sedona should be on everyone’s life list if you love the outdoors.
Another assault on our senses occurred the next day when we drove out to the Grand Canyon. Everyone has seen pictures in books or on TV of the Grand Canyon but standing on the edge of the south rim looking across the canyon is an unforgettable experience. Nothing prepares you for this view. A mile deep, 227 miles across and up to 18 miles wide, the canyon is so immense it truly deserves its title of one of great wonders of the world.
True to our roots, we found an organic apple orchard that provided healthy snacks during out trips. Sedona is all about tourism rather than agriculture but if you look long enough there is usually an organic garden or restaurant in the area.
My last visit to Sedona was 20+ years ago but the magical experience was still the same.

Seeing Tlaquepaque is awesome, the Spanish style mall, with big, beautiful trees, fountains, a bell tower, a chapel, a court yard and restaurants. There are some shops with fun things for children. Tlaquepaque is by the Oak Creek, behind a Spanish-hazienda looking wall. On the expensive side.

Reasonable restaurants in Sedona: Cafe Jose is quite good, and the Indian Palace, both in West Sedona. There are several fast food restaurants, too.

Hikes are beautiful, the Chamber of Commerce in uptown Sedona can help you with a free hiking map. There are many beautiful canyons, paths along the Creek, and going to the vortexes is fun, too. The air port twin hills are vortexes, situated before the steep road goes up to Airport Mesa, and not too difficult to climb. It's a beautiful view from up there to two sides.

A vortex is an energy field connected to the ground. I believe there are millions of crystals underground, which give off energy upon pressure by the huge rocks, like in a cigarette lighter. sedona tourism
