I bought two japanese maples the first of April at two different places. About one month later, I noticed curing, dying leaves on both only on the back side next to the house. These are planted in a court yard under a large old live oak. There is no sun. Nothing else ....ferns, begonias, impatiens are affected by curling leaves. During the next few weeks, the affliction moved through the trees, and has shown up now to most of each tree. I'm convinced this is from our quarterly pest treatment that was sprayed behind the trees on or near the sides of the house. What can I do?

First - stop the pest treatments - they'll kill a lot more than trees.

Look into the treatment for contaminated soil

In addition to activated charcoal you can use Zeolite.

Make sure you are hand watering the tree a couple of times a week plus weekly seaweed solution mixed in with the water. You're sprinkler system will not water deep enough. Also make sure they are not in afternoon sun.

Check the list of organic companies in your area. And if there isn't help there, check the Natural Organic Warehouse.
