Post subject:  Ailing Loblolly Pine tree

Several years ago- about 3-4; we purchased two loblolly pine tree in about 25 gal. containers.

One of the trees died about a year after transplanting into this Azle soil(high ph and also high potash). The second tree has languished since it was planted. While our neighbors trees planted about the same time has grown well with the exception of one tree that has done poorly.

The well water we use to irrigate may be the major problem for this tree as the water has 8.1 ph. This added to the soil ph of about 8 may well describe the whole issue.

We've heavily amended the soil with compost, used iron supplement(liquid and dry) and used compost tea in addition to the Dirt Doctor sick tree treatment.

We're about ready to throw in the towel but I'd appreciate some other input.

Thank you.

Sorry, but you can't grow loblolly or other acid soil loving trees in alkaline soils. The pine that will grow there is Italian Stone Pine. See the information on it in the Library of the site.
