Can anyone recommend a bushy alternative to euonymus?

We have been slowly replacing some of the poor plant selections made by the previous homeowner. This year i will be replacing three large euonymus shrubs.

The space is against the north side of an 8ft fence so full shade, north dallas clay, okay drainage. I'm looking for something with 6 to 8 ft height and 4 to 5 ft spread, evergreen, and resists scale and fungus which are prevalent in my yard.

I really like Viburnums, specifically 'Spring Bouquet". They are evergreen, can take sun r shade, have a beautiful flower in the spring and black berries in the fall and winter. They are slow growing but you can find fairly large specimens. There are other great viburnum varieties too.

Thanks Sandi

The wife is interested in the snowball variety for its hydrangea likeness since we haven't been able to keep one alive in our heavily shaded back yard.

Howards book says we should use the deciduous version in north texas instead of the evergreen though. Do you agree?

We are thinking of putting a clematis on the fence with the viburnums in front of that.

Snowballs need some sun to bloom. I prefer the varieties I mentioned.
