I bought a home in McKinney that has a 6 foot high creosote retaining wall in the rear. To hide the creosote wall, I planted Ivy all along the wall. Initially the Ivy caught on well and flousished in the areas that get the most am sun. However, the Ivy has started to die. It will start at the end of a shoot and gradually work back to the root. The soil it is planted in appears to be native white/grey clay. During the summer months I water for 10 minutes every 3 days.
I can't determine if the Ivy is dying due to the creosote, too much water, too little water, too much sun, etc.

If Ivy is not the proper plant, does anyone have suggestions for a good year-round cover-up plant ?

I know what creosote is. How do you make a wall out of it? I'm having trouble picturing what you have.

David,
I suspect that the wall is made from RailRoad ties.

I have the large leaf Ivy here and it has died in the front yard but not the back yard.....what up? I heard we has some type of fungus in the area.

Both areas are cared for in the same maner and in the same general growing conditions.
